A New Definition of Hot & Cold Foods*

Foods are either "hot" pro-inflammatory or "cold" anti-inflammatory. Hot foods set the stage for the burning pain of inflammation, whereas cold foods reduce inflammation.

"HOT" PRO-INFLAMMATORY FOODS

Most vegetable oils
French fries
Fried chicken and fish
Margarine
Most salad dressings
Breads and other bakery products
Many packaged microwave foods
Fast food meals
Beverages with sugar

"COLD" ANTI-INFLAMMATORY FOODS

Olive oil
Fish, particularly cold-water species
Fresh vegetables
Low sugar fruits (e.g. berries)
Free-range beef and chicken
Game meats (not corn fed)
Mineral water
